When a dream meets reality.
Many die with a dream but very few
are capable of experiencing it by living every moment of it. I too had a dream
when I was in class 10. I used to spend hours on my laptop by just clicking on
the “search” option and choosing the option which used to top my list of
searched stuffs which was being searched the most, IIHM, a pioneer in itself
when hospitality industry is discussed. I always dreamed about being a part of
the prestigious IIHM family, fortunately I am. Yes, my dream came true and
finally I am writing this article sitting in the cafeteria of my college. As I
belong to a middle class family, my family members were not such pleased about
my decision after my boards examination but somehow I managed to convince them
and finally, I took admission in IIHM.
I was excited about my new life as I was
reborn with the name of IIHM in my heart. It all started on 15th of July, 2017. I was sitting with about more than 130 students in the restaurant (X-Spicy) of IndiSmart hotel connected with my college. The honorable Founder & Director of IIHM, Mrs. Sanjukta Bose started the first induction session by
delivering a speech of welcoming us in this world of hospitality. Our virtuous
chairman, Dr. Suborno Bose delivered a speech by filling the spirit of
enthusiasm in the students. I was pleased to see my shirt with a sticker
saying, “Don’t be Shy, Say Hi”. It
was just a dawn.
For two weeks I exchanged words with
my seniors and other faculty members. The college welcomed us with games,
quizzes, some erudite sessions and a hope of a sunrise every next morning with
a logo of IIHM in our shirt. Classes
commenced and the race for being at the top began. I was shocked to see that
being a food lover but not a good cook, I made food of different cuisines. I
was literally crying from inside, yes I was, but it wasn’t the tears of fear
but the tears of gaiety. I have a fear of public speaking but here, I developed
good speaking skills with credence. I also assimilated grooming standards of
this Industry and tried to inculcate the habit of being active on social media
and promote my college at every step. Here, I also grasped that apart from
academics, we also have something really interesting to indulge ourselves i.e.
Digital Marketing. I got the chance to be a part of recently concluded Monsoon
Food Fest, where I was in Digital Marketing team. My efforts were recognized by
our honorable Chairman and Chief Mentor, Dr. Suborno Bose. He applauded me for
my efforts and I got a golden chance to get a picture clicked with him. So, it
was a green tick for one of my wishes in my bucket list. I learned wearing
saree to cooking food in this Institute. I even got to know the importance of
housekeeping department in the hotel industry, from twin-bedded room to WC area
was so interesting which made me think that I don’t have to feel inferior even
if I clean a Studio room as because, the more I learn, the more I get attached
to my college, after all, I am learning under the guidance of pro-faculty
members.
Today, being a part of IIHM, I want to state that it does not take a “.” Here, the real film has just begun. I want to emerge out holding a yellow color umbrella, while everyone holds black umbrella, it is because we see yellow faster than any other color, 1.24 times faster than red in fact. I want to end my experience by dictating a cliché – See it. Believe it. Achieve it.
